A minor who was recently released from the Juvenile Facilities JF attributed much of this success to the volunteers who worked with him. He is currently employed and doing very well. You may be a volunteer if you are over the age of 18, can pass a background check and are able to relate to the needs and concerns of youth who are trying to turn their lives around.
Volunteers need to be stable, patient and sincere. All kinds of people are offering their time and interest to probationers: college students, retirees, homemakers, accountants and salespeople. Oppurtunities are as varid as those who volunteer. Knowing you have personally impacted the life of a youth in DYS, brings great personal satisfaction. Where can I volunteer? Individuals may volunteer to work inside our facilities throughout Ohio or with any of our regional offices.
How can I volunteer? There are many possibilities for the type of volunteering activity you can provide. We encourage volunteers to consider hobbies, talents, or skills they might have that they could share with the youth. Examples of current volunteer activities are:. Regardless of the activity you choose to provide, being a good listener and a friend is just as important.
Will I be trained? Yes, all volunteers receive initial training at the facility where they will be volunteering. Additional training is also available throughout the year. All student and volunteer positions are unpaid.
It is expected that persons accepted into these positions will be reliable, dependable and will carry themselves professionally. All program participants will be expected to learn and follow the policies and procedures of the Juvenile Department. All students and volunteers are accepted on a case by case basis.
